Market-based instruments

Innovative market-based instruments (MBI) can incentivise forest owners to manage their lands sustainably with a focus on social impact.

Supporting MSMEs, forest and land owners

INTERCEDE is exploring and evaluating existing market-based instruments across Europe for socially optimal forest ecosystem services (FES) provision.

Engaging with the project’s potential end-users via its stakeholder forum, the Transdisciplinary Forum, INTERCEDE will highlight MBI that are adaptable, scalable, and effective in promoting FES.

These MBI should support forest and land owners and small- and medium- enterprises to create financially viable and socially beneficial solutions for both forest owners and the broader community.

INTERCEDE is working to:

Map emerging forest MBI in Europe

Assess MBI achievements

Eliminate design errors and inefficiencies

Ensure good economic valuation

Conduct environmental impact assessments

Model future climate projections and potential for forest adaptation
